Located on the right bank of the Dnieper River, this group of golden domed churches and monasteries is perhaps the most beautiful area of Kiev. Founded in 1051 as center of the dissemination of faith, enlightenment and spiritual education, generations of monks have cultivated area and adorn the monasteries.
"Pechera" - cave (the first monks here dug cases as their home; "Lavra" - the highest status for the Orthodox easter monasteries. It had become the most important and influential monastery in East Slavic Orthodox world.
